I recently inherited an email archive from a colleague who left the company. The archive contains years of communication stored as MSG files. Since I use Thunderbird exclusively, I quickly discovered that opening these files isn’t as simple as I expected.
My first goal was to Open MSG File In Thunderbird without changing the original content. I tried a few free approaches, including manual conversion and Thunderbird add-ons. They worked for small batches but became inefficient once the number of files increased.
The archive includes contracts, invoices, client communications, and attachments that must remain exactly as they were originally sent. Because of that, I’m trying to avoid methods that might alter email metadata or folder organization.
During my research, I found multiple references to the DRS Softech MSG Converter from users who needed to move large Outlook archives into Thunderbird. The reviews suggested that it can convert multiple MSG files at once and preserve attachments, which sounds promising.
Before I commit to any approach, I’d like to hear from others who have faced the same challenge. What method did you use, and did it successfully preserve all email data during the migration?
